PMR-Kyoto:
As a joint research team of the Hitoshi Gotoh, Eiji Harada and Abbas Khayyer laboratories of the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, PMR(Particle Method Research)-Kyoto has been established in January 2023. The PMR-Kyoto aims to further advance the development of the particle method research that has been conducted by the Urban Coast Design Laboratory.

2023.1   Dr. Eiji Harada was appointed as the Professor of Environmental Hydrodynamics Laboratory.
2023.9   Dr. Hiroyuki Ikari was appointed as the Associate Professor.

 

Urban Coast Design Laboratory：
Our laboratory was originally founded in April 1967 as the Chair of Coastal Engineering at School of Civil Engineering, Kyoto University. The late Dr. Yuichi Iwagaki was the Professor of the Coastal Disaster Division, which was founded in 1961 as the division of Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University. The late Dr. Iwagaki moved from the DPRI to become the first professor of our laboratory in August 1968. Over twenty years since then, the late Professor Iwagaki had taken a leadership to develop researches in Coastal Engineering.

In 1992, Dr. Tetsuo Sakai was appointed as the second professor of our laboratory. Under the leadership of Professor Iwagaki and Professor Sakai, research and education related to Coastal Engineering have been conducted more than over forty years. Over two hundred of students graduated from our laboratory play an active role in various world, government, industry and university.

History of Urban Coast Design Laboratory

1967 Apr. The Chair of Coastal Engineering at School of Civil Engineering, Kyoto University was founded.
1968 Aug. The late Dr. Yuichi Iwagaki was appointed as the first Professor of Coastal Engineering Laboratory.
1971 Oct. Dr. Tetsuo Sakai was appointed as the Associate Professor.
1987 Mar. The late Professor Yuichi Iwagaki retired at the mandatory retirement age.
1992 Jul. Dr. Tetsuo Sakai was appointed as the second Professor of Coastal Engineering Laboratory.
1993 Feb. Dr. Hajime Mase was appointed as the Associate Professor (Dr. Mase moved to the DPRI, Kyoto University in 1996).
1996 Apr. The name of the laboratory was changed to the Coastal and Offshore Engineering.
1996 Apr. Dr. Hitoshi Gotoh was appointed as the Lecturer.
1997 Apr. Dr. Hitoshi Gotoh was appointed as the Associate Professor.
2003 Apr. The name of the laboratory was changed to the Waterfront Environmental Engineering due to the establishment of the Graduate School of Urban and Environmental Engineering.
2007 Mar. Professor Tetsuo Sakai retired at the mandatory retirement age.
2008 Apr. Dr. Hitoshi Gotoh was appointed as the Professor of Waterfront Environmental Engineering Laboratory(the thied Professor).
2008 Oct. Dr. Eiji harada was appointed as the Associate Professor.
2010 Apr. The name of the laboratory was changed to the Urban Coast Design of the Graduate School of Civil and Earth Resources Engineering due to the reorganization of the Graduate School.
2013 Apr. Dr. Abbas Khayyer (Lecturer) is appointed to Associate Professor of the Applied Mechanics Lab. in Dept. of Civil and Earth Resources Eng., Kyoto University.
2023 Jan. Dr. Eiji Harada was appointed as the Professor of Environmental Hydrodynamics Laboratory.
2023 Sep. Dr. Hiroyuki Ikari was appointed as the Associate Professor.
